Sensor Monitors Level
The float sensor sits inside the reservoir and continuously tracks the water level. No manual checking required.
The WaterUps Solenoid Reservoir Controller automatically monitors the water level in your wicking reservoir and fills it when it gets too low — stopping before overflow. Fully automated, zero-waste irrigation for commercial landscape installations.
A simple, reliable four-step cycle that keeps your wicking reservoir at the optimal level — automatically, around the clock.
The float sensor sits inside the reservoir and continuously tracks the water level. No manual checking required.
When the water level drops below the configured threshold (20% of reservoir capacity), the controller triggers the solenoid valve to open.
Water flows through the solenoid valve from the connected supply (mains, tank, or recycled water) and fills the reservoir from below.
When the reservoir reaches the configured full level (below the overflow pipe), the controller closes the solenoid valve. The system returns to monitoring mode.
The solenoid controller integrates with all standard size WaterUps products — SIC channels, wicking cells, Oasis wicking beds, Artesian planters, and custom installations. A single controller can manage multiple reservoirs in series.
The float sensor continuously monitors the water level in the reservoir. When the level drops below the configured threshold, the solenoid valve opens and begins filling.
The controller automatically shuts off the solenoid valve before the reservoir reaches overflow level — protecting the planting medium from waterlogging and preventing water waste.
Designed for low-power operation, the controller can be adjusted for battery or solar-powered installations — ideal for remote streetscape and park installations without mains power access.
Fill trigger and shutoff levels are designed to balance consistent soil moisture, power loss protection and rain water collection.
The controller can be integrated with building management systems (BMS) and SCADA platforms for centralised monitoring of large commercial and civic installations.
An IoT connected module is currently in development — providing real-time reservoir level data.
Automate filling and eliminate risk of overflow events — no seepage, staining or slip risk.
Remote-access rooftop gardens benefit most from automation — no staff required to monitor or fill reservoirs.
Reduce maintenance crew visits and ensure consistent plant health in high-visibility public spaces.
Connect the controller to a stormwater tank — design your system to automatically draw from captured rainwater instead of mains supply.
Ideal for installations where regular maintenance is not guaranteed — the system keeps plants healthy during school holidays and weekends.
Maintain lush, healthy planting in high-profile hospitality settings without relying on maintenance staff to monitor water levels.
vs. conventional overhead irrigation
Automatic shutoff prevents all overflow
No manual monitoring or filling required
The WaterUps® Solenoid Reservoir Controller can be added to any new or existing WaterUps® installation. Contact our technical team to discuss integration with your project's water supply and control systems.
