As well as being used for new growing environments, the WaterUps® cells can also be installed quickly and easily to existing beds. As the series of pictures below show the procedure involves 3 main steps.

Dig out the existing bed

This bed has obviously seen better days! The base itself is fine but let’s start by clearing out the old soil.

Soil on the tarp makes it easier to reclaim than just laying on grass or concrete. You’ll need to decide whether you can re-use the soil or whether to mix in some new mix or replace the whole mix.

To get the best from the bed you’ll need a flat firm base. A base of soil or sand, a spray of water, a spirit level and a good pat down generally does the job.

Install the WaterUps® cells

Follow the installation guide to cut to size and install the pond liner, WaterUps® cells and inlet/overflow pipes.

Install the potting mix

Give the cells a good spray and then fill your bed with the potting mix. A good drench of the mix every 100mm or so will help moisten the bed for best results when planting.

Your bed is now ready to plant. Simply fill the reservoir and the wicking process will commence. Note the moistened soil will help even the most shallow rooted plants establish themselves quickly.
